When my pal Kathryn insisted I go with her on a trip to Las Vegas I had no idea I would end up with a ruthless cowboy like Rowdy. A woman will do weird things when she’s vulnerable. Had I stayed with my husband despite his affairs, I would have been better off. But no, I had to run away with the cowboy just to avoid facing the reality of my divorce! What was I thinking? When I first arrived in Freedom I lived in squalor with Rowdy in a small, run down, bunk house on his father's ranch. I regret now leaving my family and friends behind. I should have stayed on the Island and faced the heartbreak. What I thought I would find in Freedom bared little resemblance to the reality. I’m so impulsive I spent a ton of money trying to create my dream world in the middle of the frigging prairie. Have I lost my mind? The wind never stops blowing and Rowdy’s drinking is driving me crazy. I had no idea what I was getting into when I agreed to buy those danged rodeo bulls. Now I’m in deep, way over my head. I’m paying the bills and taking care of his parents and teenage kids. Did I have to build this beautiful western lodge and restaurant? Now all I do is work my ass off. Sure, it’s “fun” being a female stock contractor, but is the cost worth the glory? I’m entertaining cowboy wannabe’s from around the world and meeting some interesting people. You won’t believe this I got a call from Hollywood. They want to tell my story in a reality TV show. Hey—why not? I’ve always wanted to be a star. There was a time I thought my love for Rowdy would help heal my broken heart. He’s a womanizer. He loves all the girls. It wouldn’t be so bad, but he uses my money to entertain them and he takes them to my bed when I’m gone. That’s not all that goes on here. You should see the way he lets his freeloading buddies eat and drink at the restaurant for free. He’s drinking more than ever lately. He starts his day with a beer in the shower and ends it with a pint of vodka. My money is disappearing fast. When I looked in the mirror the other day I didn’t recognize myself. This hard work and impossible situation is taking a toll. I’m thinking about getting the hell out of here, but I don’t know how. I thought I had the place sold, but the crooked buyer from Las Vegas left town after the restaurant fire. Are you ready for some good news? I sold the ranch! He doesn’t want the lodge. I’m closing it down and heading for Arizona until I can find a buyer for the lodge. I think I’ll write a book. My life is truly a new day western saga. I have written the 2nd Edition of Farewell to Freedom from a woman's point of view, but it will be enjoyed by men and women alike.
